Audience Feedback Survey

To produce an easier way for our audience to answer some questions  I used a survey website called Survey Monkey 'https://www.surveymonkey.com/MySurvey_EditorFull.aspx?sm=_2BLsvQk7h1SUuZbmScgvKl4Ja59cwPw8q1_2FjrPNqw14s_3D' The fact that we decided to use a survey allows us to see how successful our research was in targeting our chosen audience. It also conveys how if it was a professional video and we wanted to make another video, we could see the areas which we needed to improve and change and the elements which the audience liked and if they wanted anything added or changed.

Evaluation of the music video (research and planning.)

Evaluation of the shoot day

The day before our shoot, our group met for a few hours before the end of the day to start setting up the first set for the next day. This involved making the cardboard props, such as the guitars, toaster, scrabble board and lamps. The set walls were also set up with a divider separating the separate the bathroom and bedroom. The day before I brought in all the props which I was allocated to bring in, such as the side tables, lamps, the polka dot duvet, the alarm clocks and the picture frames and canvas’s, as well as the large amounts of cardboard boxes which we needed for the drum kits.
Before shooting the video, we has to dress the sets, this included painting some of the walls and putting the furniture in place. We also had to set up the dolly tracker and the extra lighting we needed especially in the bathroom.
Our set looking like a stereotypical dolls house, with similar furniture. Above the bed there was a canvas painting of a beach which looked like paradise, which contrasts and fits without theme that everything is perfect, when on the outside everything is not perfect. The studio had a professional look to it with the sets being lifted on tilts which abled us to transition down a floor into the living room or basement. I feel we managed well to create the perfect dolls house image, with every detail filled, for example having a wallpaper head board and a polka dot duvet.
During the day, all the group had the chance to shoot. I began the day by providing the majority of the props. Throughout the day I shot all of the tracking shots which consisted of the transition shots from one from  to the other, such as the transition from the bedroom to the bathroom for both the boy and the girl, using the dolly and track. Whilst filming the band performance, in some sections we decided to have the strobe. In some cases I operated the strobe light, doing this you increased the strobe beat and decreased the light, making the room darker, but with the flashing strobe light. Furthermore, I also shot and filmed many of the close up shots of the band, such as the shots of the drummer, guitar and other shots such as the guitar player’s tapping feet to the rhythm, which was effective. The facial shots of the band members were also shot by me as well as the mid shot of the band in the basement, when both normal and with the cardboard instruments. I feel that I was successful in choosing the effective shots and when shooting the transition shots.
On the shoot day we realised how time consuming out concept was, this was mainly because we had to change the sets and furniture. We were very pushed for time, however I feel we captured many great quality shots which can be used in our music video. In order to meet the time deadline we had to eliminate some of the kitchen shots and to change our ending idea. However, the ending shots, I feel are more effective and portray the message of the doll’s house stronger and clearer. We also had to remove the shots including the TV in order to finish the entire shoot. When decorating the bedroom set we realised that we didn’t have enough flowery wallpaper to cover all of the walls, which we then changed into a bed head board, which worked and looked good. The day before the shoot we realised that a kitchen for the kitchen set hadn’t been provided. So we had organised to come back to my house to film the kitchen sets. However, on the day of the shoot, a cooking hob had been provided as well as a kitchen sink and fridge, therefore allowing us to film in the set. Because of this sudden change we decided to shoot the band performance before the kitchen and living room scene, just in case, so that we could have a band performance band when editing and shoot the scenes at a later date.
Personally I think that the transition shots from the different floors where the most successful, these were filmed by using a crane. In order to make sure we included the main shots we needed we should have made a list of shots which we needed and this would have helped us be more organised as well  I Feel that we managed our actor and actress well as well as the band members, by explaining clearly to them what they needed to do and organising there costume and make up for them.
In the edit I am looking forward to seeing the quick cuts of the shots of the normal band and the cardboard band cut next to the shots of the band with the strobe light. Our teamwork though out the shoot day was good, with each of us dividing of do to different things which needed to be done.

Further CD research

While researching other Indie rock bands, I came across this image which I find effective in portraying the element of trying to hide. The fact that the characters face is hidden suggests there is something that doesn't want to be shown. The use of flowers is again used conveys the idea of perfection, however the fact that he is hiding his face makes the audience question this. White flowers symbolise love and innocence; whereas the black dead flowers conveys the idea of disappointment and non organic. This theme links well with our concept because the couple are hiding behind their perfect life.

Risk assesment

We have discussed the fact that we will raise up the sets onto stilts to create a whole room effect so that we can film the built up room having the perspective of a room. When filming we would have to be careful of the stilts, not to knock them causing the sets to fall down and injure people.

Also the fact that there will be lots of wires and lightings around, be careful around the wires not to trip up and not to have water in the studio, to stop electrocuting taking place.

Change in casting

Our other guitarist Sam Rhodes was unable to be in our music video due to that fact that we was in too high demand and that he couldn't play the guitar. Shane Himathongkom is tall and fits with the image which we wanted for the band members, and he has in the past played the guitar.

Casting List

Props list

The props list allows us to start to construct the mise en scene we want to portray throughout the different scenes in our music video. Also it then allows us to sort out which of the props we can supply ourselves and what the school need to get for us.

I completed the whole of the props list, while the other members of the groups did other work set.

Storyboard Animatic and evaluation

During editing our annamatic we realised that we needed to make it more creative by varying up the shots lengths, to having some short cut pace shots and some longer shots. We also chose to do a variety of transitions, including a pan across to different scenes and a time lapse.

Filming the annamatic allowed us to cut to the beat of the song and to be more realistic on the timings. It also allowed us to see how long the hsots really needed to be and it put this into perspective, making it clearer than the storyboard.

The key moments in the animatic which represent our concept are the shots of the furniture turning into cardboard. This is shown by the uses of colouring in the image in a brown pen. These shots convey the idea that the perfect world from the outside is not perfect in the inside.

The strengthes of the animatic is that it shows where the lack of varity in the shots are, so it highlights this. However, when chosing where the beat is, this may not fit with the next shot, which is compliacting.

We kept all off our shots, however we added in some of the same shots more thasn ones. For example, in the begining of the video, we decided to introduce the band performace and the lead singer. This was to introduce the band and the selling point earlier, rather than just using them in the instramental. This was important because the music video is to sell the band itself, so it is important that they appear in the video and are recognised.

We have learnt that in order to film to get the perspective of the dolls house, we will have to film, but angle to camera to miss one of the walls.

Story Boarding

Mardy bum annimation from Francescasummers

Throughout making our storyboards, each of the group contributed in different ways. I contributed by drawing all the performance drawings of the band and I did the annotation for the first 30 seconds.

Set designs

Today, myself and my group met with a set designer called Scott who was brought in from outside of school. The aim was to pitch our set ideas to him and to help us do this we sketched out what the settings of the rooms were going to look like. The picture above shows the dolly house from outside of it and this allows us to see the layers of the house and the rooms which are next to eachother.

During the meeting we discussed how it would be better if we shot, the band performance scene in the studio instead of in the basement, this would make it easier to increase or decrease the lighting, and also in the basement it is a long corridor and if we need to film the scene by angling the camera to allow the walls to be in the correct place to make it look like it is part of the dolly house.

The set designer also discussed how to make sure we get the perspective of the dolls house, we would have 2 sets next to each other. This would then allow us to easily film our transitions to the next room through the pans across the walls horizontally, however, when banning downwards through the fall into the 'basement' we would have to raise up the floor onto stilts and then therefore this would make it easier for the panning downwards to take place.

We also decided that the rooms would have a dark feel to them and this conveys a moody feeling, which would contrast with the perfect dolls house, but would link with the fighting of the couple and the furniture turning into cardboard.

A letter the the record company asking for permission

To Domino record company,

We are a group of A Level students working on an A Level project for a qualification in Media Studies. We are writing to request permission to use the following track ‘Mardy Bum’ by the Artic Monkeys.

With your permission the track ‘Mardy Bum’ would be used as the accompaniment to a short form video that is made purely for assessment purposes and will have no commercial usage. The video will be viewed only by members of the school community and the assessor of the examination board.

The artist and the copyright holder will of course be fully recognised in the pre-production and evaluation material that accompanies the project. We can also include a full copyright notice if required both in the planning material and on the video itself.

Yours sincerely

Our band name

Throughout the discussion of what to call our band, we came to the conclusion that the name which best suited our band and our concept is 'Wonderland.' Deciding on the star/bands name is a vital part, me made the choice 'Wonderland' because it links perfectly with our idea of a perfect world which is conveyed at the end of our video, through the use of the dolls house. 'Wonderland' portrays the idea of a marvelous imaginary land or
fantasy; however this contrasts with our concept through out the video in the essence that the couple are fighting and their 'wonderland' is failing apart and is turning fake.

Editing the anamatic

Throughout this lesson, we started editing our footage of the annimated storyboard filming using final cut pro. We selected the track and inserted it into final cut pro and created a rush bin. We found it easier to create different bins for some of the different scenes, such as the scenes with the band become one seperate bin. Then we listened to the track and pointed out the sounds which stood out and placed a red marker there. Then we would insert the shot numbers in order.

However, we decided during the editing that we should include a sequence of the band in the instrumental at the beginning of the track as well as later on. We included a mixture of shorter and longer shots of the band and the alarm clock, with short cuts which fitted in with the beat of the song. I think this was a good choice because this means the audience is shown more and the whole point of a music video is to sell the artist or the band.

Shooting the anamatic

During this lesson, we shot the annamatic of our story board. We set up the camera onto the tripod and then white balanced. Myself and another team mate called annabel filmed the anamatic, while the other 2 members of the team, went to find out about a large scale printer and if we were able to use it in our video, to print the images of to the scale we needed and then stick them to the cardboard boxes.

d
 We had to film each of the drawings in the frame for 5 Seconds, so then in the edit sweet, we could edit them together, including some short and long shots. In total we had 89 shots, which is a suitable amount of shots to have on the storyboard. However, in the actual shooting of the video, we will probably shoot more than 100 shots. This may be because some shots went wrong, or an idea was slightly changed or modified.

Mardy Bum- Artic Monkeys

Mardy- A word popularly used in the Nottingham/East midlands area of england. Words with a similar meaning include: stroppy, moody, sulky, grumpy, childish etc.

Mardy bum- Someone who complains a lot, moans about their life.

Concepts

 The clip video above taken from tumblr shows the similar shots which we want to include during our performance element in our music video.
The video of the drums being played above is really effective with the dark lighting but with some light (white light) showing on the drummers face. In our music video during the performance element we want to cut lots of shots of the band at different stages and when the pieces of equipment start turning into cardboard. But through out these shots there will be s strobe light and this is why i like the use of lighting in the video above.

Clothing ideas

This animation of the doll and person gives us an idea of the types of clothing which and actress we need for out music video.

The clothing on the doll potrays the types of clothes we need to think about dressing out actress, in order to convey her in a similar way like a doll.

Possible storyboard ideas

The website www.storyboardthat.com allowed us to storyboard our ideas online and we found this useful because the way it is presented the different shots was in a way which linked with the dolly house idea. Also the drawings consist of the same dolls house layout. We were going to do the whole of our storyboard on this website however it didn't have the varied shots and scenes which we needed.

Further ideas

When we sat down and met with the media teacher, we discussed our ideas which involved the dolls house idea and he mentioned the idea that through out the song objects such as tables, chairs, radios etc should begin to turn into fake objects such as cardboard, almost as if the house is turning into a dolls house itself. The beginning of the video would consists of a normal happy family, but through out the song, the relationship of the family starts to change, this can also be seen through the juxtaposition of the fake furniture appearing.
 Through out the performance scenes of the band playing to the music, there will be several shots broken down with some shots of the normal band and then shots of the bands instruments turning into cardboard and these shots would be linked together using a strobe light.

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

 Throughout Leona Lewis's video there are a selection of shots which have inspired some of the ideas which we want to include through out our media video. We like how the shot includes four sections with different scenes taking place in each one, almost like there is being a story told.
 This shot shows the different moods and how they contrast by the use of the lighting.
 Because leona lewis's video is about a break up this shot includes the bars which suggests the person is trapped.
 This shot which i have captured could be used in our video as a transition from one scene to another, i find it effecting how the pan goes from one room to the other.
 This i feel creates a very strong image especially as a opening shot, the fact that each of the different apartment room has a different lighting suggests that each room has a different mood. The way in which this shot includes many windows (squares) reminds me of a dolls house and i would like to include a shot similar to this in my video.
This shot can also be used as a transition shot from high to low.

will.i.am - Bang Bang (Official Video)

In class we watched the live video from the voice and then we watched the official video for will.i.ams new track Bang Bang.

I thought it was effective how, everybody was in suits and the main character (will.i.am) had a white had unlike everyone else who had a black one. The fact that will.i.am is black and has a white hat on and the blacking dancers are white with black hats on conveys a very string image.

James - Sit Down

This was one of our first ideas for a song, because our concept for this song was strong and unique. This song already has a music video, however we would redo the video because the video is very old fashioned.

The idea:

The main focus would be the bad, dressed in suits but with a female lead singer. There would royal dinning room chairs situated behind the band players and when the chorus of 'sit down' came on half of the band would sit down and the others stand and then swap over. We would also include shots of individuals going a chair dance and then at the end of the video all the individuals would join together to form a line. This shows care and help, which is what the song is about.

We decided not to carry on with this idea, because we feel it is better to choose a song with no music video so that the two videos cant be compared together.

Video killed the radio star

This was a good idea, however when we pitched the idea to Luke (in the media department) he suggested that the song was too well known, but our concept was a good idea.

Polydor Records- Emily Tedrake

Emily Tedrake works for Polydor Records and is a video commissioner in London.

She explained and went through several ways in which the media industry works, the people she has worked with and the process which the treatments are presented. This includes the layout they are sent to her  and all the information this includes. The treatment which we were shown often included a Variety of pictures of the location, main characters and things you want to involve. But other famous well known artist just sent a short word document with there ideas and don't need to prove how good their idea is.

Emily Tedrake is a commissioning editor for Polydor records which is a major record label,  which is a part of Universal Music Group (Time Warner conglomerate). She commissions Music video for music artists (inc the Macabee’s Ellie Gouding, Lana Del Ray), and she put out tender to directors who once selected will submit a treatment.  Emily may have contact 10 clients who may want to shoot, depending on bids/ concept.

The main information which she informed us with was that the shoots of the videos often take up to 1-2 days and the budget can range from £100-£100,000 depending on the artist and how big the track you are wanting to be and what you want the video to convey to the audience. The process of putting the whole video together often takes up to a month.

Main points:

  • The artist has to be in the video.  They have to promote the star image.

  • Not all artists like narrative based videos.
  • Video are shot on locations and in studios, they need to have permission otherwise you will get kicked off your shoot!!!!!!

  • Each video is a  part of a campaign – tied in with
  • Important to get the image right, particularly the visual image – MV can be the most  important aspect of the marketing campaign.

Some examples which Emily showed us:
Ellie Goulding

Treatment – images used are suggestive of content and theme, but also realistic on behalf of the director.  Uses specific references for the look of the video, specifies location, how are you going to shoot the band, what will props will look like, also considers casting etc for narrative.  Will need to consider weather Ellie have the right star image and styling.  The treatment covers the most important parts.  The director will then storyboard the video – an important visual process in the shooting of the video.
A bog production 70 -100 extras. 12 hour shoot on a military base, needed permission, risk assessments etc needed.  Used location, narrative, performance and lyp sync.
James Blake -Overgrown.
Overgrown music video

 One of Emily’s  favourite, no visual images to this treatment.  Shot in Los Angeles over two days.  £30,000 budget  & top named director.  Lots done in post-production, highly stylised with lighting.  Cabin built in studio, green screen on windows, uses a time lapse.  Cabin put in hillside in post-production.  Starry sky is post as are the grim reapers.  Use professional backing dancers.  Gets across a fantastic star image and this has to match the music.  Where Ellie had scale energy and colour, James Blake is elegant and simple.

This was extremely beneficial to have a talk from Emily because she is professionally involved in the media industry today.

Main concept ideas

Throughout the lesson we were put into groups and watched some unusual videos which we then discussed.

We watched the video''

Our group really liked the concept of the video being played backwards. We discussed ideas in which we could include this idea.

We came up with the idea of someone who starts off with all their make up on and then when the video starts bit by bit the layers of make up come off. For example: the lipstick would come off lip my lip, and then the mascara, blusher and eyes shadow.

This would be filmed by filming the whole shoot normally and then in the editing room you would swap it round to make it play backwards.

We liked this idea because it is unique and hasn't been done many times before. However, we have to include a performance section of the band in the video and this will not fit with the backwards section. Also it was hard to find a song to fit with this concept because the song needs to be about dressing up and going partying and all the songs like this are new famous songs with big budget videos already.

Treatment 3

Artist- Avril lavigne
Track name- Sk8er Boi

Star image:

-Young girl with a rebel side
- gothic

-leg warmers
-flouresant paints, turn off lights and just see flouresant socks running on the treadmills

include different shots and angles- including electric guitar string and then close up of a aril stringing the strings of the guitar with colourful flouresant nails

Marketing-
-The song is old which is appropriate for a older generation and target group. the album cover would consist of of a similar fashion to the 80's to attract the older target audience.

Why piracy is perpetuating plastic pop?

The highlight from this article is the fact that the music industry is undergoing a big issue with people copyrighting and illegally downloading music. Massive attacks 3D told the BBC that up too 25,000 per site of the downloads from the unlicensed sites and that if you multiply this throughout the whole world, then all of his profits are gone. This conveys the fact that downloading illegal copies contributes to the failing in companies such as HMV and also the artists themselves. This could also become an issue for big companies such as iTunes in the future.

However, one artist who did stand up was Lilly allen and argued that it was to 'easy' to breach copyright rules online. But this did cause thousands of messages threats to be targeted towards Lilly Allen and this included death threats, which caused her to shut down her website and also inhibited other artists from speaking out.

 Billy Corgan from smashing Pumpkins stated 'commerce starts at the point where people are happy with paying for something – and the fact that technology now allows people to choose to not pay for music has turned music culture into a service culture.'  This shows that now people have the option to not pay for a single, they choose to download the records illegals and think nothing of it.

The change of an artist

Record labels also changes the artist image over time, an example would be miley cyrus. At the beginning of the career she was known as the innocent Hannah Montanna, but over the years she turned into a rebel teenager with the surprising single called 'Can't be tamed' .
Currently, miley cyrus is seen as a wild out of control adult, which songs about sex and drugs. This totally contrasts which her image at the beginning of her career, but also shows how artists change over a period of time.

Pop Music Genre

Genre is the classification of a text according to its style and content and possibly its form and manner of production.
These  are the categories which come under genre:
* Pop (including global categories like Europop, Arabic pop, Cantopop, J-Pop and K-Pop)
* Dance
* R&B
* Hip-Hop/Rap
* Rock
* Punk
* Country & Western
* Folk
* Jazz
* Blues
* Latin
* Gospel
* Reggae
* New Age

Genre and Artist Image

Image is a key paradigm for music genre, with an artist's look categorising them before they start singing or playing. For an artist or band to truly fit a genre category, they must be represented as doing so visually, on record sleeves, publicity photos and in music videos. Visual is important for example adele has a complete different visual to niki minaj.

Adele, whose music draws from classic pop styles of the 1960s and 1970s, is often photographed wearing classic, retro clothing that associates her with her role models Aretha Franklin or Dusty Springfield and her image represents her amazing voice and the pure personality.

Whereas niki minajs clothing consists of low cropped tops, mini skirts and vibrant colours which potray an aggressive loudmouth fake artists. Both these sell singles but to different target audiences. These are just two examples from many different genre categories to chose from.

Studying Pop Stars

 While pop music changes, and is constantly evolving into a variety of hybrid forms, pop stars retain common characteristics. The songs change, but the singers remain the same. This explains the journey of the artist from a young age to an older age, they represent this by changing the types of songs the artists sings; at the beginning of the career innocent songs about friends and at the end about love. However, the type of the singers voice rarely changes.

The following below are looked for in a up and coming new artist:

* Youthfulness
* Rebellion
* Sexual Magnetism
* An anti-authoritarian attitude
* Originality
* Creativity/talent
* Aggression/anger
* A disregard for social values relating to drugs, sex and polite behaviour
* Conspicuous consumption, of sex, drugs and material goods
* Success against the odds

However, the longer a star remains successful on the world stage, the more difficult it is to continue to embody these values. Originality and creativity burn out. The
rock'n'roll lifestyle erodes good looks. Young stars get old, complacent, become part of the establishment. The new target audiences are looking for new artists and because they are a new generation they expect new and different songs.

An example of an artist who had the look and the voice for a pop star was Will young. He won the Xfactor and was popular for 1-2years, however now he is making no singles or albums and the new generations don't know who he is. This often happens with the winners or contestants from the Xfactor.

On the other hand, Micheal Jackson and Amy Winehouse are examples of pop stars who 'live fast' and 'die young.' These artists never loose their image and only have a certain amount of well known albums and records, but they are known as heroes and this is passed on down through the younger generations.

Audience Feedback

During one of our media lessons, we had some people who hadn’t seen our thriller sequence view our product and give their feedback on the plot, the strengths ad the improvements. Audience feedback enables us to see how much the audience understood from our opening thriller sequence. It also allows our group to see what needs to be improved and worked one and also shows if the overall reviews were positive or negative.

Some of the reviews realized that the man was living in an‘apocalypse’ and with a last man ‘survivor’ in the world. They also worked out what the strings were being used for, to ‘trap’ and ‘hear’ when people are coming. These ideas are right which shows how we have portrayed the end of the world idea successfully. However, this idea wasn’t so clear to some of the other audience, with people thinking that ‘someone was being trapped’ this shows that we need to work on some shots to make sure that someone isn’t being trapped and that there is a trap to catch the things the other side of the door. The fact that people were making consumptions of what is the other side of the door, such as zombies, aliens and murderers, is good because this shows that our thriller is making the audience question and think about what is happening, this involves the audience more.

Secondly, the strengths allowed us to see the positive comments, which mainly consisted of the title sequence, which was described as consisting ‘artistic shots’ of the strings and the ‘sounds’ to ‘build up the tension.’ The fact that the audience noticed that the string shots and ‘sound’ builds up the tension shows that these areas have been successful in creating the tension where we wanted it to be. Also our editing was highlighted as being good and the reviews mention the titles located around the strings create a ‘professional’ element. Also our lack of sound was commented on making them ‘feel on edge’ this also shows that we have created tension effectively.

The improvements mainly consisted of including more of a ‘quite soundtrack’ and some ‘creepy’ music. However, we didn’t include a soundtrack because we felt to create tension it would be better with no soundtrack and there to be silence, with a small wind sound. Some good comments we that we used ‘slow editing’ on some of the string shots, this is what we could improve on my using faster editing because the slow editing could have resulted in the tension being lost. However, I feel that the long shots created more tension because the audience is waiting and wondering what is going to happen next and rhetorical questions are being asked.

Overall, I feel that the majority of the reviews contain positive comments, but has made me notice that we could have edited a bit more and contained some extra exciting thing, to make it more interesting and to increase the tension.

Evaluation Task 7:

Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learn't in the progression from it to the product?

During our prelim we did simple shots and stuck to the sheet which showed us the shots to use. During our thriller we did several different shots such as movement shots when we followed along the strings and then we also panned alone when the main character walked towards the door. These movement shots are effective in our thriller because we have used them to build tension.
In the prelim there was no mise en scene, there was just one main object in my case was a rubix cube and a chair. In our thriller, we used quite a lot of mise en sceneto create the setting and to make our thriller look how we wanted it to. For example, we used lots of rubbish such as cans, carboard and bottles to be spread around the tent. We had a tent which had lots of strings and cans attached to it and we boarded up the windows. These all created a home like environment to show that the man had been living there for quite a long time and shows how he has adapted to living there.
In our thriller, our editing was much more effective. We cut on movement to ensure there was no jumpy movements. The editing in the thriller was also more smooth.
In our thriller, we decided to use no soundtrack or sound through the majority of it. When trap goes off there is the sound of the bells and there is a slight increase of a sound when the man is walking towards the door. There is also the eerie creak of the door handle when it is turned. When the title comes up there is a faint background sound. The fact that we have no music at the beginning allows the audience to question the string and the tent, it also allows them to focus on what they are watching.
During the editing of our final piece i learn't how to put the final piece into 3D which really improved the opening sequence because it improved the visual effect of the white string on the black background.

I think during the filming i was best at giving directions to my other team mates and offering my ideas. I also enjoyed the filming, however when it came to my go at the following the string it took me several times to get a smooth run because a slight bit of movement created a jump in the shot.

From working with the other people in my group i have learn't that if you have a good idea to speak up and to mention it to them because this idea can angle of lost of other new good ideas.

For some of the shots we had to position the camera in different places:

Too get the inside tent close up shots of our main character, we had to bring the camera and tripod into the tent in order to get a good close up. This was quite tricky because the tent we were using was a small one and the camera was to close and we couldn't focus, however, we figured it out and got the shots.

Evaluation Task 4:

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our ideal target audience would be teenagers and young adults aged around 15-21 years because these are the ages which like to go to the cinema to see more scary and heart thrilling viewings.

To find a more specific target group for our thriller i asked our three different people from our primary audience some questions, ranging 15-21 years, all with a different background and general interest to narrow down and see our specific target group and which people are most likely to watch our product. I asked questions related to the peoples other interests such as music to see which other things interest the audience and which relate to our product.

Firstly i questioned a sports man aged 18. From the questioning him i found out that the type of music he likes and listened to is influenced by the top charts, which normally consist of a loud, catchy beat. The sort of TV programmes this person likes to watch is discovery channels, this would be a suitable person for our film because our films opening is based on discovering what§ the man id hiding from. The types of films he would go and see would be interesting films and films which he has heard about from social network and friends. Also thrillers and action films are of an interest to him because they are of interest and have a plot which makes you want to know more and think about the possibilities. I also explained the basic plot and asked them what they think of the idea and he thought that the idea is exciting and likes the fact they dont know whats going to happen at the end. Furthermore i asked which place he is most likely to watch the film and the answer was if the film was longer than 2 hours then he would download the film from itunes and less then 2 hours he would go to the cinema.

Secondly i interviewed a funny upbeat girl who likes shopping. She is interested in the popular top 10 chart music because it is the bestmusic to jam too. She likes to watch TV series because they are exciting and she likes that fact that you have to wait a week till the next one. This same idea imply's to our thriller because it is an end of the world apocalypse story with a plot which is enliched through out the whole film. The types of films she likes to watch are popular Hollywood action films because its exiting packed with excitement and she also likes to watch thrillers when she is with her friends, but not on her own and she doesnt like them to be that scary or she will get nightmares. She likes the sound of our thriller because it sounds exciting and unexpected and she is most likely to go and see it at the cinema with friends.

Thirdly i interviewed a woman from our secondry audience which is 30-35.
What music do I like? Pop music from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
What tv do I watch? Sitcoms, soaps and panel shows.
What types of films do I go and see? Comedy and romantic films.
What do I do with my life? I work as an actor. I like going to the cinema, theatre, comedy clubs, traveling, socializing with friends.
What do I like about the opening sequence? The tension and the mystery it creates. Having a good location helps to create the mystery. Also by moving the camera very slowly creates the tension.
How would I be likely to see the film? I would watch a film at the cinema, on tv or dvd.
Even though her preferable films are  comedy and romantic films, she did enjoy our thriller sequence, which shows that our product may attack other people who don't normally watch films in that category.

From looking at the 28 Days later votes on IMD i can see that the most votes are from people ages under 18 and males under 18. Also with just under 0.1 less voters were the females under 18 and the people aged between 18-29. This shows that 28 days later's target group ages from young adults. This is similar to our thriller, however our secondary audience is 30-35 and from looking at the graph the votes dropped 0.3, Because our thriller is similar to 28 days later and the young adults have voted a high average would convey that the same type of audience would be interested in our thriller.
30-35 secondary
